An extra section of Great Preston Road in Ryde, which has deteriorated rapidly in recent weeks, is to be resurfaced next week.
Island Roads’ work to improve Great Preston Road in Ryde is said to be ahead of schedule and as a result, it has been decided that work will be carried out at the Westridge end of the road too.
Between Tuesday and Thursday (7th-9th February), the section of carriageway between Westridge Cross and Smallbrook Lane will be resurfaced, although not to the same extent as works at the opposite end of the road.
A spokesperson for Island Roads has said:
“We’re pleased that for a number of reasons, not least the dry weather we have been experiencing, we have made very good progress on the work In Great Preston Road.
“So while we are working in this location it makes sense to extend our planned scheme to another area that is in need of resurfacing.
“Even with this additional work we are still on course to finish the project ahead of schedule. We would like to thank residents for their co-operation in observing the traffic restrictions in place during work. This too has contributed to the good progress we have made.”
The work on the additional section will take place between 07:30 and 17:00. Residents have received letters highlighting the scheme and its impact on them.

I expect hard grafter Pauls ears will need an ice-pack tonight then.
The yellow line baying mob will be out in force, or at least one Sud Africana will using a vast amount of differing user names.
Seem to resent anyone who works for a living. Guess a rare event in that area.
What does being an Hard Grafter have to do with an Idiot parking a
yellow Vauxhall Corsa on the pavement!
In South Africa that sort of behaviour would not be tolerated.
Shaun, the point is, that as someone who works hard running their own business time is limited and carrying heavy tools etc to a van, parked a long way away is hard.
Many of those non working families having their children bought up on state benefits are unaware of the hardship of working FULL time for a living, whereby you may need to pop in to just pick up a tool etc, as they apart from taking the ‘kids’ to school have all the time in the world to do as they please.
The yellow Corsa owner has a disability I have heard so can’t walk very far and needs to drop here young child off as she also works for a living.
Those moaners sat in watching tv, stuck on a phone having their kids paid for owe this family a lot.
Remember such
The disability is called lazyitis
Walk like the rest of us.
Someone said the person in question has a skin problem due to tattoos reacting badly. Chaffing of inflamed skin can make walking even short distances very painful, especially if trying to carry a young child.
Show a little respect for others please.
Shaun,
Whilst the terrible crime of a young mother with swollen tattoo chaffed legs briefly parking a couple of wheels on the sidewalk outside her parents home might result in a burning tyre neckless in S.A, here we have, or at least, had. a more civilised populace.
If it was so great there why come here? The free house and all that comes with it one supposes.
I would suggest if those on benefits were in hardship then they would not be able to afford two cars, and if not working have no need to own a car, as have all day to walk the children to school or go shopping.
Then MORE parking would be available for those who do work despite having painful skin damaged limbs and eating disorders to contend with.
Be nicer in life
They are not the only family working in Great Preston Road
My son and daughter work, but they are respectful of others when Parking their
Vehicles.
Obviously persons running their own businesses lack common sense and brains
and do not understand right from wrong.
Pavements are for pedestrians not vehicles.
Better than an Ice Pack is not parking on the pavement in the first place.
Why p*ss off persons who park correctly and have to walk to their homes.
If everyone parked on the pavement what a state the Island would be in.
Working for a living does not give a person the right to park
on a pavement.
Some home owners think they own the pavement outside their homes.
Pavements are Public Highways, not parking bays.
Then don’t forget to place Double yellow lines along Great Preston Road to
Stop Idiots parking on the pavement outside the Old Council Houses
approaching Nicholson Road.
Roger due to selfish motorists parking on Pavements along Great Preston Road
I no longer walk down this Road when walking my children to school.
UNSAFE
Grow up, put your phone away, look right then left then right again and just CROSS the road. Simple.
Roger
Yellow Lines are coming.
If selfish Households parked correctly in the first place, such measures would not have
been needed.
What about it Clarendon Road Shanklin it’s a main bus route and all other roads have been seen to but Clarendon road is in one hell of a mess and is dangerous to walk on let alone drive is there a problem with this busy road in some way I wonder .
A glory seeking bit of information from IR. Any sensible person knows that Great Preston Road needs extensive rectification from end to end. Point scored here -20.
I thought that they would be resurfacing that section anyway. It has been a potholed mess for years.
Is that not the whole point of Island Roads?
Cannot believe they were actually going to leave that stretch to deteriorate even further
Maybe the residents should come out on thier door steps and clap and bang pots to show there appreciation of this heroic endeavour?
A bit of a mystery as to how they are ahead of time on this job. Only 2 of 5 workers were actually doing any work when I have walked past there this week. Maybe they are given too much time?
Or perhaps it is YOU who has too much time
