A planning application seeking outline permission to build a brand new ’employment park’ at Sandown Airport, which could bring about 400 new jobs, has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council.
6 new buildings – a mixture of light industrial, commercial and leisure – would be built under the scheme on land to the west of Scotchells Brook Lane, covering a total of 6.3 hectares.
Developers say the intention is to create a new commercial and visitor hub that supports the regeneration of Lake and the wider Bay area. They have expressed that this scheme is a major job creating and economic investment opportunity with significant positive regeneration benefits.
A total of 221 parking spaces would created by the new park with improved access from Newport Road for the park, Sandown Airport, Embassy Way and Cheverton Holiday Park.
According to planning documents, a number of companies are said to be looking to open or relocate in The Bay area including: Iceland, Screwfix, Heatstar, Travis Perkins, Carisbrooke Castle Museum, Tile Superstore, Solent Beds and WA Foods.
The extended Lake area is already home to sizable developments such as Morrisons supermarket, Spithead Business Centre and Merrie Gardens, so this new employment park would be in keeping with the surroundings.
Islanders have until 10th August 2018 to comment on the plans at https://www.iwight.com/planning/AppDetails3.aspx?frmId=34519.
