A dolphin has washed ashore on the beach at Yaverland this morning (Friday).
The mammal – which appears to be free from any obvious injury – has come in with the tide between Yaverland Car Park and Red Cliff.
Members of the public enjoying a walk along the beach on what is a calm, sunny morning made the discovery. They attempted to rescue the mammal by assisting it back in the water, but the efforts proved fruitless.
Sadly, it became clear nothing could be done for the 7ft pregnant white-beaked dolphin – which has since died.
HM Coastguard is in attendance with measurements and other details being taken as a matter of record.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue is also attending.
Disposal will be arranged.

Why do dolphins invariably die when they stranded ashore? They are mammals and can breathe ashore, so do they die of stress, or what? Anybody know?
Stress starvation they are Graze feeders so need to keep eating
I personally think it sonar out at sea which affects them.happens a lot.
So sad
I saw one out at saw one that area last year .a great sight too see
I would say more likely to do with the super trawlers plundering the cod
Yes pollution and plastic waste from us humans….we don’t deserve life on this planet…
When we humans have finally gone, this planet will recover to do its thing….sooner the better, no religion or pollution and no politics..
Such a sad site to see
Died of disappointment being washed up on the isle of wight!
So Sad to hear of such a beautiful mammal dying on the beach like that. The people who tried to help her must have felt awful..
