A staggering 211 tonnes of salt have been used on the Island’s roads in just over a week, Island Roads has confirmed.
The gritting run, which started on 6th December when the cold conditions first set in is the longest consecutive run that the highway service has ever seen, and it shows no signs of slowing up with minus temperatures set for tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday.
Approximately 105 tonnes of salt will be used on 7 runs between today (Wednesday) and Sunday as the gritters continue to treat the roads and make them safe for the public to use.
Despite the grit being deposited on the road surface, there have still been a few ice-related road traffic collisions, with Island Roads warning drivers to take extra care as we slowly head toward the end of this bitterly cold spell.

must be because the planet is heating up..
So don’t keep moaning about ‘global warming’ then.
Should global warming occur, the plants and grasses grow longer each season meaning far more Co2 is absorbed and more Oxygen is put into the atmosphere.
IF temperatures rise, then less Co2 is released as central heating boilers are not on for so long, nor are heated commercial greenhouses, huge public buildings such as schools, hospitals, uni’s etc etc taking so much energy, thus cutting down on ‘alleged’ greenhouse gases.
BUT such is never mentioned as they wish to blame in all on ‘the consumers’ to justify pushing up the prices of energy, banning the plebs from driving as much as possible to ensure the roads are less congested fort the better classes to enjoy once again.
100% RIGHT.
They can’t brainwash us.
So they brainwash our children, and it works.
# CLASS WAR.
Coldest December ever,
Feels like January came early.
Bet the Energy Companies are loving it.
