In the return to tradition, cricketers have once more taken to Brambles Bank in the middle of the Solent for the annual Brambles Cricket Match.
The teams and spectators arrived via boats early this morning (Thursday) and swiftly began the game to maximise the use of the time where the water was at its lowest.
Cricketers from the Island Sailing Club once again took on those from the Royal Southern Yacht Club in a tradition stemming back to the 1950’s.
In a bizarre twist, the winner of the match was known before the game commenced, as each year the teams take it in turns to ‘win’.
Cowes RNLI Lifeboat was on hand to provide safety cover for those playing and watching on the bank but luckily were not needed.

What excellent fun 🙂
But what is odd, no reaction from council trying to stop it like the fort walk. Maybe because they can’t make money from it. Hopefully next years fort walk will go ahead as normal, and for free, without incident.
Nail on the head also more free masons play cricket 😉
The council can’t stop it as it doesn’t belong to the Island.
Probably why it is always so well organised!
I have been out there courtesy of the Island Sailing Club and it is both great fun and quite amazing to stand amidst all the tankers and sea going vessels passing by with dry feet as well sometimes. A quintescential British quirk.
