Police, fire and ambulance crews are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision in Blackwater this afternoon (Sunday).
Fire crews from Newport were mobilised alongside police, paramedics and the Enhanced Care Paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service at around 12:45.
The incident occurred on Sandy Lane on the hill just past the junction with Marvel Lane and has seen 2 vehicles collide.
Emergency vehicles are currently blocking the road so motorists are advised to avoid the area as it isn’t currently possible to get from one end of the narrow track to another.
The rescue tender from Newport has had to reverse back down the length of the lane to allow for other emergency vehicles to leave the scene.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have been approached for a comment.
UPDATE @ 14:45 – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that no serious injuries have been reported.
The road is now clear.

Maybe councillor Jordan can widen the road and install a flyover…
It’s not surprising how many crashes happen on the Island
Try driving down Great Preston Road Ryde
With vehicles parked on both side of the Road
outside the Council Houses
Vehicles have to come to a quick stop, because with vehicles
parked on both sides of the Road, vehicles cannot pass freely / safely.
Time for Double Yellow lines to be placed as a matter of Safety.
you must be a really crap driver…
Actually an excellent driver, but I do not expect IDIOTS to park on the
Pavement.
Sensible drivers know that pavements are for pedestrians not for vehicles.
How does parking on the pavement impact your excellent driving on a road with no yellow lines?
an excellent driver that cannot negotiate Great Preston Road..thats an oxymoron mate lol
Don’t drive down there then
Bit awkward when living in St Johns.
Well if he wants his double yellow lines, if he needs maintainence work at his house like a new boiler, he’ll find it hard to get one since tradesmen won’t be able to park near his house…
I have seen many tradesman park on double yellow lines.
Along Great Preston Road, Morons park on the pavement 24/7
7 days a week.
No one requires that much maintenance.
Why don’t we all park on pavements and bring the Island to a standstill!
Then IW Council would have to do something about it.
Driving too bloody fast no doubt. If it’s a really narrow lane, the cars should have been going no faster than 20/25mph!!!?????
And you were there to witness it? Oh how I love (not) you keyboard warriors. Ah, you have 35 supporters too. How ‘nice’.
Marvel Lane junction coming out onto Sandy Lane is dangerous – went to come out of there one day on my bike and a 4×4 raced up passed! 10 secs earlier I would have been in trouble.
Why not make single lanes one way only ? the Horse and Cart days are long gone .
Better if people learnt how to drive.
Problem is drivers do not THINK another vehicle will be coming…
