VIDEO: A crash whilst training in the USA hasn’t deterred Island athlete Kim Murray from achieving her goal of competing in the Skeleton at the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022.
Kim has just returned from New York after a two week training camp at Lake Placid in preparation for her first race there in March 2016. Unfortunately, Kim suffered a crash early on in the camp and as a result missed some training, but the Islander was soon cleared to slide again and made good progress clocking a staggering 111kph on her best run.
Talking about her experience in America, Kim said:
“The track was very different from the previous tracks I’d slid. The corners were short and fast; there was a flow to the track which felt great.
“I am now off ice until the end of January when I go to Germany for 3 weeks before heading back to Lake Placid to race in the North America Cup in March. The track in Germany is another new track; in a very beautiful setting, Konigssee.
“Whilst a month off ice seems lovely right now I know once Christmas is past I will be itching to get back on my sled! I will use the time to continue my search for sponsorship (my crowdfunding ends on the 23rd); looking to form partnerships with business over a longer term and also develop a business in exercise, health and performance consultancy.
“I hope to be able to educate, train and inspire athletes whilst supporting myself as a full-time athlete”.
