Cowes Town Council has secured £15,000 in grant funding from the Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Powering Communities to Net Zero Fund to strengthen local resilience in the event of a flooding emergency.
The funding will be used to purchase essential flood‑response equipment such as sack trucks, generators, brushes, buckets and cleaning materials, as well as a dedicated storage container to house the items.
The Town Council is currently assessing suitable locations within the town for the container.
Cowes Mayor, Councillor Stuart Ellis, said:
“This funding gives us a real opportunity to strengthen Cowes’ resilience in the face of flooding. By investing in practical equipment that can be deployed quickly, we want to help our community to respond more effectively when it matters most. We are very grateful to SSEN for their support.”
Colin McMillan, Community Investment Manager at SSEN Distribution, said:
“The Powering Communities to Net Zero Fund was created to help local areas build resilience and prepare for the challenges posed by extreme weather. We’re delighted to support Cowes Town Council in taking proactive steps to protect residents and assist recovery following a flooding incident.”

Stopping flooding is the priority and or making sure drains are clear of any obstruction. If the river is the cause the points of ingress must known and a barrier placed, removable one if necessary.
