Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), with the support of Cap-Regatta, Yacht Club de France, Lorient Grand Large and Jeanneau, the 2025 Offshore Double Handed World Championship will be held in Cowes from 22nd September to 1st October 2025.
This sailing event will be a mixed crew event using the Sun Fast 30 One Design.
RORC is inviting respective Member National Authorities (MNA’s) to register a team and pay a deposit. Team details can be finalised at a later date. If more than 28 teams have been registered, a selection panel, appointed by World Sailing, will select teams and the hosts will issue invitations with the objective of maximising geographical distribution of the competitors.
This year’s Offshore Double Handed World Championship will allow up to 28 mixed teams with competition consisting of up to 2 qualification races, a repechage race, if needed and if conditions allow, and a final race.
RORC CEO Jeremy Wilton said:
”The RORC is proud to be hosting the Offshore Double Handed World Championship which will be based at our newly redeveloped Cowes Clubhouse. The racing area in the Solent and English Channel is one of the most historic and challenging racing locations in the sport. It is complex, offering many tactical and strategic possibilities. We have great confidence that the RORC Race Team will use the best of their abilities to deliver a truly World class event.”
The 2024 edition of the Offshore Double Handed World Championship was held in Lorient, France, where 22 teams from 16 nations contested the trophy. Conditions ranging from 30 knots and two metre swells to zephyrs of wind with flat calm resulted in a dramatic final leg where the lead changed on numerous occasions, but the British team of Maggie Adamson and Cal Finlayson did just enough to hold on to a slender lead and win the title by just 65 seconds.
This event, at the end of the sailing season, will be a welcome addition to those offering services or hospitality in Cowes or other areas of the Island.
