The volunteer crew of Cowes RNLI lifeboat had a busy day today (Saturday), initially launching for an exercise and then responding to no fewer than 3 shouts.
The first incident involved a motor vessel which, unbeknown to its crew, was dragging its anchor off Osborne Bay. The lifeboat crew gave some advice and after the anchor was retrieved the boat proceeded on its way.
The second alert concerned a man thought to be in difficulty in the water; but the lifeboat was then stood down after he was reported to have reached safety.
Then came a call to a small yacht, adrift with no-one aboard, off Island Harbour in the River Medina. A search for any possible missing person was carried out by Coastguard Rescue Officers based at the Festival site, but no-one was found.
The drifting boat was secured and the lifeboat returned to station at 19:30, with the lifeboat volunteers having been on the water for no less than 5-and-a-half hours.

Five hours ?……..Stirling effort by this volunteer crew. A great asset to Cowes and the Solent.
Good work , guys. We all may need the help of a lifeboat at some time in our lives, and it is a great comfort to know that help is available whenever it is needed.
