Parents of students at Cowes Enterprise College have received letters warning of ‘stranger danger’ following a string of incidents that have seen children approached by strangers.
The letter to parents, sent by Vice Principal Mrs J Harding, has warned parents and guardians of children attending the school to reinforce key safety messages with their children – including what they should do if they find themselves in a situation where they are approached by an unknown person.
Explaining the reason for the letter, Mrs Harding says that the school has been notified by members of the local community that there have been a couple of these types of incidents in the ‘local area’.
It follows a number of incidents across the Isle of Wight where children have been approached and offered a lift or sweets, with the most recent incident taking place in Shanklin, as previously reported by Island Echo. Other incidents have also taken place in Sandown, Newport, and Carisbrooke, with warnings also being issued by schools in those areas.
The Academy says that it has reminded its students about the importance of keeping safe when in public and reinstalled the key elements of ‘stranger danger’, stating that the entire school community must remain vigilant.
