Isle of Wight pharmacy closures which have left many residents ‘unable to access essential medications’ are due to be discussed at County Hall tonight (Thursday).
The adult social care, public health and housing needs committee will consider recent ‘serious challenges’ faced by the Island’s pharmacy services and an update submission on the situation from NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
In September, Healthwatch Isle of Wight said issues with pharmacies, including short notice closures, low stock levels and limited availability, were ‘causing distress and inconvenience’, particularly for those with ongoing health conditions.
A paper published in advance of the committee meeting this Thursday says:
“Pharmacy services on the Isle of Wight have recently faced serious challenges, particularly due to unexpected closures of several Jhoots Pharmacy branches across the Island.
“These closures, often occurring without notice, have left many residents unable to access essential medications, causing distress and inconvenience—especially for those with limited mobility or urgent health needs.
“Other local pharmacies have struggled to absorb the increased demand, and the lack of clear communication has further complicated the situation.
“The ICB is working to address these issues, but concerns remain about the resilience and reliability of pharmacy provision on the Island.”
NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s submission says the integrated care board ‘meets weekly’ with a Jhoots representative for the South East.
“In the summer, reports were made by members of the public and local representatives of the issues accessing medicines from Jhoots pharmacies.
“There are 5 Jhoots pharmacies across the Isle of Wight. NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight meets weekly with a Jhoots representative for the South East and are aware of these reports.
“While the exact details remain confidential, action has been taken previously and the ICB remains prepared to do so where needed in the future if contracted requirements are not met.
“No official notice has been given as to any planned closure of these pharmacies.”
Jhoots has been contacted for a comment.

If you ‘Google’ Jhoots they are in trouble all over the UK, staff not getting paid and some reports even saying they are selling off premises to cover staff wages.
That’s what a Labour Government does to businesses
just wait until their November budget.
Spooky.
