HM Coastguard, Police and Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat have responded to concerns for the welfare of a male cut off by the tide at Luccombe this evening (Thursday).
Emergency services are currently on scene at Shanklin Esplanade – the closest observation point to Horseshoe Ledge.
Sandown Lifeboat has made contact with the individual, who is said to be camping in a tent at the remote section of coastline. He is known to Police.
It has been stated that the male does not require assistance.
Search and rescue teams and Police are now standing down from the incident.
The alarm was raised at around 18:50.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

Which part of him was cut off?
Sadly, not his head. This fellow’s smashed up businesses, threatened to rape barmaids, and crucified a kestrel. Mind-boggling ain’t in it. King Neptune should have been allowed to do his job. If this fellow lived, he could have been France’s problem. Take back some shite, Monsieur Macron.
The Council instead of wasting hundreds of thousands on stupid unnecessary projects such as the Ryde Esplanade farce, could spend a few thousand on re-instating the wooded steps down to the beach at Luccombe.
Then no one would be in danger and a much loved walk for all would be enhanced.
Yet they would sooner waste the money on nere do wells in ‘adult care’ homes and of course their pensions and expenses imo
Stupid comment again get a life
We had wooden steps at Ventnor. From the cliff at La Falais car park. The ‘gent’ in this news story cut them up with a saw and burned them! In June and July heatwave, so can’t even claim he was cold. Maybe he did it to provide light for the well witnessed crucifixion of wild birds he carried out. Authorities seem concerned now, but locals were told his behaviour was nothing to do with us or them.
Totally agree with you Straight Up ,well said
Ah, well now. Not the hungry, unfortunate gentleman of the road whom some imagine. This chap is ‘Simon’ from Norfolk who wrought havoc in Ventnor last week. He smashed up business premises, threatened ladies with violence of a particularly hideous nature, set fires in the town, and actually crucified a kestrel. He was persuaded to move on. Clearly didn’t get far and is still using up valuable resources and taxpayers’ money. Sad country we live in…
How is “Simple Simon” still about in town. I thought he had a ban slapped on him. Be wary people if you see a skinny, tanned man, no shirt and no worries about you or your property, stay away, this guy is plain nasty. Animal killing is just the start, things get worse, he should be locked up, not having an easy life, not paying taxes, working or doing any good.
Headline should be CAMPING FREE FOR ALL pitch where you like!
Quite agree give us your address and we will camp in your tip of a garden.
Completely agree with above comments about the repair of coastline access points/stairs being repaired. It makes absolute sense that people are much less likely to become cut off by the swiftly changing tides, and therefore wouldn’t need to be assisted to safety. With all the health and safety requirements today, I’m surprised this isn’t lawfully required already.
Agree with most comments here. This bloke is a nuisance. A 66 year old with the attitude of a wayward child, who believes he can do what he wants at costs to others without a single thought for his actions. Now it appears he’s waisting the time of emergency workers & the volunteers services. One thing that may be of use to the volunteers responding to such a call in the future, which may divert them from some one in actual need. Read a tide chart ! It’s almost impossible to be cut off by an out going tide. Save time & resources on this type of call by utilising all the local knowledge the volunteers should all have.
No aware of this person but sounds like he needs cutting off
Clearly mental health issues. Why has he not been referred?
He’s from Norfolk, so is perfectly normal to the people there.
Best thing to do would be to send him back there
Do you mean sectioned?
Having dealt with this person a few times, he has no mental issues at all, perfectly in touch with what he is doing and saying. No sympathy at all. He is just down here from Norfolk, after being released from prison their. Enough said. He is running from someone up there.
Or in the pay of somebody rich to make life, and business, difficult for the two local, well established families he has attracked. Right next to a piece of land which had, apparently, an inexplicable fire that nobody in authority was interested in. Except the fire brigade, who described it as ‘classic and textbook arson’ unquote. That was the chief investigating fire officer on the scene the day after The Gaiety went up. Somebody is greedy and wants more seafront. Different modus operandi this time around…
