Local communications company WightFibre has issued confirmation that cold callers claiming to be from BT or EE, stating they are taking over the WightFibre contract, are scammers.
Households in Ryde, Sandown and Newport – as well as other areas on the Island – have been targetted over the past week.
The scam has seen individuals dressed in high-vis knocking on doors and asking homeowners for their details to ‘process’ a change over from WightFibre to BT/EE.
A spokesperson for WightFibre has said:
“This is clearly a scam, completely untrue, and we would like to warn everyone that if it happens to them they must report them to the Trading Standards immediately and definitely not give them any information. If they feel threatened in any way they must call the police”.

Well at least the scammers aren’t digging up roads making journeys impossible.
Are you completely retarded?
What a absolute stupid comment its getting the island technology which will be good a little disruption won’t hurt
They visited my mother in cowes, she rang me to say they were being quite forcefully and was worried as she couldn’t get them to leave. From the questions they were asking it’s quite clear they are trying to take advantage of elderly people
I think you have to be a brick short of a load to fall for that.
Was knocking on peoples doors up pan estate yesterday!!
Silly Joanna L what a crass comment ,
No point in telling trading standards… utterly toothless organisation… unless you’re a shop selling fags to schoolkids…
I had a lone young man from London in an expensive suit and dripping in gold knock on my door last year trying to get me to go with BT and telling me they are taking over Wight Fibre
