A pile of clothes found beside the sea in East Cowes prompted a coastal search earlier this evening (Thursday) – but it has since been confirmed that all is well.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to East Cowes Esplanade at around 18:40, with flank station Ventnor also called into action.
A number of items of clothing had been found in suspicious circumstances by a member of the public, prompting fears that someone may have been in trouble at sea or on the coast.
Coastguard Rescue Officers began a shoreline search and then requested the assistance of Cowes RNLI lifeboat.
It has now been confirmed that the search has been called off as the owner of the clothing has been found safe and well.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

Why call out the Bembridge and Ventnor crews before calling out the Cowes crew 200 yards from East Cowes esplanade?
Obviously too lazy to put them in the bin. There’s lots of charity bins around.Sad
