Emergency services have been called to a cliff fall in Luccombe this lunchtime (Wednesday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, the Isle of Wight Rescue Service and Police are currently in attendance at the beach at the far end of Shanklin Esplanade.
The call came in after a member of the public saw the fall and alerted the Coastguard just before midday.
A section of the beach has been cordoned off in the interest of public safety.
Firefighters from Shanklin are using a thermal imaging camera to check that no individuals have been caught up in the fall.
UPDATE @ 12:55 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now stood down from the incident.
The fall was not as large as first feared, but locals and tourists alike are being urged to stay away from the base of the cliff.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
