The spire of a church in Newchurch has been made safe by firefighters after a weather vane was left dangling dangerously following yesterday’s Storm Eunice.
Hurricane-strength winds caused damage across the Island and brought about serious disruption, as previously reported by Island Echo.
One of the victims was All Saints Church in Newchurch. Incredibly strong gusts – which hit a record-breaking 125.4mph at The Needles – snapped a weather vane at the top of the spire off, leaving it in a dangerous position.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was able to use an Aerial Ladder Platform from Newport to reach the damaged spire this morning (Saturday), making the scene safe.
A little bit of the landscape has been changed forever as a result of Storm Eunice…

Broken by the hand of god, perhaps they didn’t pay the rent on time…
Another inane comment from a leading member of the island’s brain-dead fraternity.
This is the trouble with you week indoctrinated religious nuts, you have no sense of humour whatsoever, you follow a man made hocus pocus with absolutely No proof of what you spout.
Just remember all religious books that you fools like to quote from are written by Man! Not a fictional God,
You thrive on conflict around the world, with each other while the good people simply look on and wish one day you all come to your senses and live in peace….
# God is dead.
God is very much alive in alot of people’s hearts. The religious poem ‘Footprints’ one should read.
Ok, you sound like Yoda.
But to fair to you guys, I do like ” The Serenity Prayer “.
you talk some crap
More drivel written by man….
