Christmas cheer has returned to one of the busiest junctions in Ryde thanks to the generosity of local firm Harrison Contractors, who have stepped in to supply a Christmas tree this year after Ryde Town Council cut funding.
It was only last Thursday that All Saints Church on Queens Road was told that there would not be a Christmas tree placed outside the landmark building this year – an annual tradition funded by the Town Council.
Fearing that Christmas cheer would be lost at the Five Ways junction, Rev Heath Monaghan put out a social media appeal to find a local company to sponsor this year’s tree.
Harrison Contractors, based on nearby St John’s Road, quickly stepped up to do their bit for the local community by supplying a bushy tree as part of this year’s festivities.
The tree was installed yesterday and was officially lit up earlier this afternoon, thanks to donations from local residents totalling £225. The money has been used to buy lights for the tree with extra going on hampers for those in need.
A big well done to Harrison Contractors.
Bah Humbug to Ryde Town Council,
Christmas is only once a year, obviously
the Council are not very festive
Of course, the church couldn’t possibly afford to fund it???
