37-year-old Thomas Cadman and 25-year-old James Mahoney have been separately charged with drink driving after being caught within minutes of one another in Newport earlier this month.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called to reports of a vehicle which had struck a bollard near to McDonalds in Newport Town Centre at around 02:10 last Saturday. It soon became apparent that the man had possibly been drinking. He was ordered to carry out a roadside breath test, which he failed, resulting in an arrest on suspicion of drink driving.
Whilst waiting for transport to custody, officers witnessed a second vehicle drive along South Street with no lights on. Again, it soon became apparent that something wasn’t right and the driver was ordered to carry out a breath test there and then. Within just minutes of the first failure, the driver of the second car also failed the breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Now, Thomas Cadman of Clarence Road, Hinkley in Leicestershire and James Mahoney of Lynch Lane, Calbourne have been charging with driving a motor vehicle whilst over the drink drive limit.
They will both appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates court on 16th October 2020.

Close the pubs then….
Wont solve it. Alcohol can be brought at many supermarkets and shops e.g. Premier. Drink can be consumed 24 hours a day and quite a few drivers flirt with the limit. Only tougher sentencing should be made. Losing their licence( if they got one) and after a suitable period of time e.g. 5 years for the first offence made to retake a test. 2nd time licence taken away for ever.
They may have been concerned about some issues they were having with their sobriety, and gone for a drive to check if they were sober enough to drive…
I bet the guy from Hinckley is already really pi**ed that he has to come all the way from Leicestershire to appear -and wont be able to drive home either. Good.
