2 men were arrested on suspicion of drink driving in Newport overnight in what Police have dubbed a ‘2 for 1’ deal.
Police were called to reports of a vehicle which had struck a bollard near to McDonalds in Newport Town Centre at around 02:10 this morning (Saturday).
Upon arrival, officers found the driver asleep at the wheel and it soon became apparent that the man had possibly been drinking. He was ordered to carry out a roadside breath test, which he failed, resulting in an arrest on suspicion of drink driving.
Whilst waiting for transport to custody, officers witnessed a second vehicle drive along South Street with no lights on.
Again, it soon became apparent that something wasn’t right and the driver was ordered to carry out a breath test there and then. Within just minutes of the first failure, the driver of the second car also failed the breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
The duo remain in custody at Newport Police Station on suspicion of drink driving and are expected to be charged later on today.
Police posted the news to their Facebook Page less than 30 minutes before responding to a crash in Cowes, as previously reported by Island Echo.

2 more drivers that will loose their licences, but it makes you wonder how many drink drivers didn’t get stopped and tested.
Losing a licence will unlikely ‘stop’ them driving though. This isn’t 1950 ” A fair cop, guv” and then abide by the sentence or law.
Comforting to think like that though for the meek.
Cars should be taken and sold/scrapped depending on worth.
These vermin need huge crippling fines to prevent ‘spare’ money being used to get drunk or drugged, and as most have, child benefits should be in voucher form only only redeemed by them at specified outlets.
Anything else is just a laugh to such people.

These men will lose their licences, possibly their jobs, and will find insurance crippling in cost when they finally get back on the road to say nothing of the sheer tedium of being confined to public transport etc. Of course, none of these things may apply as likely as not they will just carry on driving regardless of the law/sentence.
So what does that tell you. To me how many are at it.any way we’ll done rozzers.
Imagine if both these two had killed an innocent person. Whilst their lives are theirs to do as they please, others have a right to be protected by law from such self centred trash.
