Empty office space in the centre of the Isle of Wight’s county town could be converted into a four-bedroom house.
Zen Transformations has submitted a planning application seeking a change of use of 29 Pyle Street in Newport – a Grade II listed, three-storey property.
The building has been ‘redundant for some time’ and securing an appropriate tenant is said to be ‘non-viable’ in the current economic climate, according to a statement from the applicant’s agent, V&L Architects.
The architects have said:
“Historically, the building would have originally been built as a dwelling dating back to at least 1865, potentially much further back in time.
The proposed change of use will not cause any harm to any neighbouring or nearby property. There will be no external changes to the appearance of the building.
As a result, there will be no new overlooking or privacy aspects created through change of use.”
The proposal also includes the infilling of internal doors through the existing party wall between 29 and 30 Pyle Street.
County Hall’s public consultation on application 25/01221/FUL closes on 7th November, with a decision expected on 2nd December.
