A car that was stolen from a driveway in Sandown has been successfully located by Police this afternoon (Wednesday).
As first reported by Island Echo, the silver VW Golf was taken from outside a residential address overnight.
The owner noticed her car was missing this morning and called 101 to report the theft. Since then, officers have been on the lookout for the Golf – registration mark RJ61 FWM.
2 young males were seen in the vehicle at the Co-Operative car park in Ryde at sunrise.
Now, Island Echo can report that the vehicle has been successfully recovered by Police.
Officers from the mainland-based Roads Policing Unit, who happen to be on the Island today for a crackdown on motorists, have located the vehicle in Bailey Close in Ryde, off Bennet Street. It’s understood the vehicle was sighted and a pursuit got underway, before the vehicle was dumped.
Witnesses say a male ran away from the scene at around 13:10.
Earlier this afternoon there were reports of a pursuit involving a motorcycle in and around the Shide area of Newport, as well as separate reports of another motorcycle pursuit on Great Preston Road in Ryde.
UPDATE @ 16:36 – A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 12:55 and 13:25 to reports that a vehicle believed to be stolen had been seen driving in the Nicholson Road and Thornton Manor Drive areas of Ryde.
“Officers conducted an area search and located the vehicle in Bayley Close. The vehicle has been seized and an investigation is underway.”
No arrests have been made at this time.

What a waste off time and money to recover a piece of crap
W#@×&er comment. You would be fed up if it happened to you
Some would say that about yours
Get back on your horse and cart
What a waste of money and time? This was someone’s life line for independence and work. You clearly are a selfish uncaring human. The value of having a car is not what it’s worth its what it does for owner and family. Catch the culprits and they might not then steal another – could be yours next!.
To the person who owns this car it is very precious. These thieving yobs don’t care about the consequences of their criminal and selfish behaviour.
The owner has suffered stress , inconvenience and probably increased insurance costs , plus their personal space has been violated.
If caught maximum damages should be awarded.
This is not simply a crime against property.
Your comments are very hurtful and rude
Boo who your get over it
I blame the WEF. Seems the most likely cause. Global business moguls and world leaders love a bit of joy riding. They get off on it.
Are you on day release???
Looneys on here blame everything on the WEF so I am just getting with the program. Think WEF was a moderately successful band in the 90s.
Given the very much off the main road location, I suspect rather than “locating” the vehicle, someone called in to report it had been dumped there.
Still, full marks to the police for actually turning up to claim the credit I suppose.
How the heck did they steal it? Was it already unlocked?
Stole the keys.
Officers from the mainland found car which is great for the owner, but again just shows how lazy Island police are, over paid doing nothing, shame I knew my parents other wise I could of joined
Now there’s a surprise found in ryde the sh t hole of the island to much benefits and idiots
Maybe now is the time to invest in a Stoplock being the
Island is getting like the mainland.
Motorbike 70 plus though Shide and Carrisbrook. Hope they got him.
They cannot catch a cold
