The driver of a small hatchback has fled the scene of a crash in Ryde tonight (Tuesday) in which 2 vehicles have been significantly damaged, 1 of which has ended up on its roof.
Police, fire and ambulance crews are currently on scene at High Park Road, at the junction with Arundel Road, where a black Seat Arosa and a blue Ford Focus have collided.
The crash happened at just before 22:28.
Island Echo understands 1 of the vehicles involved failed to give way, resulting in the smash. The driver of the Arosa then fled the scene, with witnesses claiming that the male stated he had no insurance on the vehicle.
It is also understood the car has only just been purchased having been sold as ‘spares and repairs’ in recent days.
2 fire crews from Ryde are attending the scene in the interests of safety, whilst also assisting with initial casualty care.
At least 1 female is currently being tended to by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, presenting with minor head injuries.
High Park Road is closed in both directions, as are approaches on Arundel Road and Great Preston Road.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – It has been confirmed that the female passenger of the Seat, a woman in her 30s, sustained a head injury in the crash.
She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
The driver remains outstanding at this time.
It’s about time something is done on the island
too many vehicles are illegal.
Islandwide permit parking will put a stop to
this.
Check vehicle registrations, it’s 2024 should be
an easy task with all the technology available.
How will permit parking help? What’s needed is every police car fitted with ANPR and other ANPR cameras placed around the Island in strategic places.
ye right you have some strange ways..
Ah, it’s the car on roof season again
And what will happen to him??…NOTHING..should go to jail but starmer letting them all out..
ANPR has been around for a long time. Why is it not routinely used by police officers and traffic wardens to address the pernicious occurance of driving without insurance?
There is no Law and Order on Island Roads
Everytime you drive along Beaper Shute there are
always T W A T S speeding and overtaking other vehicles
who are driving within the law.
I would like to see Police patrol 24/7 along
Beaper Shute in an unmarked vehicle
They would catch loads of lawless Numpty’s.
Lock them up and throw away the key.
