A 999 call reporting a person in the water after a dinghy capsize near Seaview prompted an emergency response from HM Coastguard earlier this evening (Sunday).
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at 18:31 to reports of persons in the water to the north of Puckpool, between Ryde and Seaview.
With at least 1 casualty in the water, Cowes RNLI lifeboat was also tasked to the scene with the volunteers paged to muster.
However, the first Coastguard Officers on scene were able to quickly establish that the individual was safely out of the water and the vessel was being towed by a local yacht club’s safety boat.
Cowes Lifeboat was stood down but Bembridge Coastguard kept eyes on the situation and spoke to those involved.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
