Bembridge RNLI went to the aid of 2 people in a dinghy spotted in difficulty close to St Helens Fort yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).
During a training exercise, the coxswain of the All Weather Lifeboat spotted a dinghy that had capsized with 2 people in the water.
The Y boat was quickly launched and the 2 casualties from the dinghy were placed aboard the lifeboat, while the dinghy itself was righted.
At that point, a yacht reported a loss of steering off Ryde Sands so Solent Coastguard were asked to task Bembridge’s inshore lifeboat to take over the dinghy incident in case the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ was required to assist at Ryde.
The D-class lifeboat arrived approximately 6 minutes later and took the 2 dinghy crew ashore.
Having ascertained that the yacht off Ryde was no longer in danger, the Alfred Albert Williams stood by the dinghy until the inshore ‘Norman Harvey’ lifeboat returned and towed it back to Lane End.
