An 18-month-old calf had to be put to sleep by a local vet after efforts to rescue the injured animal failed earlier this morning (Wednesday).
Firefighters from Newport and Ryde were called out shortly after 09:00 to an injured cow stuck in woodland off Elmsworth Lane in Porchfield. Several appliances were mobilised including the Land Rover 4×4 from Ryde.
Sadly, the Hereford Heifer was unable to be rescued as she had suffered a broken rear leg.
A local vet was called to the scene to euthanise the 18-month-old animal.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service left the scene following the stop message at 11:00.

Yum.Think of all that tasty young steak on your plates later.Wasn’t a waste after all.
You’re a horrible person but you do make a valid point, even if it’s by accident. The cognitive dissonance in the people expressing their sorrow at the passing of a young animal who nevertheless participate in a diet consisting of meat and dairy. Millions of cows are killed every year just to be eaten or so we can have milk and yet the passing of one in an accident is deemed newsworthy.
