An Isle of Wight business owner is appealing for information after his 2 roadside advertising signs were destroyed overnight in Arreton.
Matt Clark, the owner of Clark’s Machinery Services in Hale Common, found his signs in pieces on the floor at just after 11:00 this morning (Thursday). The signs, which were constructed from 4-inch posts, had been advertising the business, along with Isle of Wight Mushrooms’ ‘grow your own mushroom’ kits.
Clear tyre tracks on the grass surrounding the signs suggest that a vehicle was involved in the demolition of the signs – despite them being located several feet from the carriageway – leading to the theory that the damage was deliberately caused.
Speaking to Island Echo, Matt said:
“Someone has ploughed through our signs in the last 12 hours, and although they don’t cost us a lot of money, we’d rather not fork out.
“If anyone saw anything, a car etc, or sees one with front end damage, please let us know!”

Perhaps there wasn’t mushroom on the road.
Seen a lot of ugly signs cropping up all over the place, some causing issues with line of sight at junctions. I expect a drunk driver now pubs are open.
I guess it was the same silver ford that knocked down the save our school signs in Rookley and the black plastic bollards on the grass at Godshil, just saying tyre marks on grass too ,next time might be pedestrian/ cyclist or they aim for your .
I don’t think any of us want to see advertising boards and signs along our country roads. Not that I would condone direct action of this sort, there needs to be greater controls or enforcement of existing regulations.
