Hundreds of homes and businesses in Newport have been left without water this afternoon (Tuesday) as a result of a burst water main.
It’s understood that a 6-inch pipe has gone in the vicinity of Parkhurst Road, between Newport and Cowes, leading to the loss of supply.
Properties in the Parkhurst and Staplers area are reporting a lack of water through the taps.
UPDATE @ 15:33 – It has been confirmed that Southern Water are dealing with a burst on a 6-inch main on Parkhurst Road.
A spokesperson for the water authority has said:
“Our inspectors and repair team are already on site.
“We are already re-routing water through our network to bring the small number of properties who may be experiencing low pressure or no water back into supply.”

Keep up the good work lads fixing these burst not your fault the company don’t spend there millions of profit renewing these old water mains.
Parkhurst Road is founded on clay and ground movement in that area is always causing bursts. Does anybody know if they are still the old iron pipes or the new plastic? How do the plastic pipes stand up to ground movement?
As the Island has ever more houses built, new mains are not large enough to cope, so all water companies do is keep increasing the pressure. On old pipes this just creates more bursts.
Too many houses too many illegal and undesirable imms filling the country and forcing people to try to escape here, causing our green fields to be built to ruination.
End the first problem and it would ‘cure’ many many more.
Hmm not quite true your statement the water companies have reduced the water pressure on the mains to reduce leaks nothing to do with how many houses get built on island
‘Too many houses too many illegal and undesirable imms filling the country and forcing people to try to escape here, causing our green fields to be built to ruination.’
This has nothing to do with a burst water main.
What’s that I see? Is it a hint of xenophobia?
Seems like we have more water pipes bursting than we do workers going on strike
Southern Water should be on a water meter. Every time this happens, all island households should receive compensation. Preaching to us while keeping shareholders in profit. Shove it!
