Four disused farm barns in the Isle of Wight National Landscape have been granted new flexible commercial uses.
RW and JSW Fisk Partnership has been given prior approval for a change of use of existing agricultural buildings at Marsh Green Farm in Brighstone.
Proposed use classes include general industrial storage or distribution, hotels, commercial, business or service, outdoor sports or recreation or for the provision of agricultural training.
The proposal fits with the government’s objective to support rural economic growth and to make it easier for farmers to strengthen and diversify their businesses, according to a Planning Statement from BCM Wilson Hill.

A council decision report said:
“Given the rural nature of the site and the existing agricultural works taking place on the site, it is considered that the change of use of the land for commercial use of this scale and location would not have a detrimental impact on neighbouring amenity.”
One highway safety condition was attached: that the use permitted shall not start until space has been laid out within the site for 11 cars to be parked and for vehicles to turn so they may enter and leave the site in forward gear.
Brighstone Parish Council previously told the council it has no objections to the application but requested Marsh Lane is used as the route in and out of the site, not Mill Lane, and consideration is given to the use of lighting, the site being in the dark skies area.
