Royal Navy Bomb Disposal experts have been in attendance at Bembridge this afternoon (Wednesday) following the discovery of a piece of suspected ordnance.
It was on Tuesday afternoon that an object was located at Forelands and reported to HM Coastguard.
Due to the fading light and predicted tides, the decision was taken for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to travel to the Isle of Wight today.
However, Coastguard Rescue Officers and the Naval team have been unable to locate the object.
It’s thought that the tide may have taken it away – despite its size and weight.
With no new information coming to light, the Royal Navy and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team have now stood down from the incident.
Anyone who finds an object on the coast that they believe may be an explosive should call the Coastguard on 999.
