Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat has been launched to conduct a medical evacuation of an individual from a vessel off the coast of the Isle of Wight this lunchtime (Christmas Eve).
At just before 11:30, Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Bembridge Lifeboat following a request for assistance from the vessel ‘Normand Pacific’, located approximately 5 miles east of the lifeboat station.
The Tamar-class lifeboat is now alongside the multi-purpose offshore vessel. The volunteer lifeboat crew are expected to transfer the patient onto the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ before either returning to Bembridge, or going straight to Portsmouth Harbour for onward conveyance to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.
UPDATE @ 13:57 – The casualty – a member of the Normand Pacific’s crew – has been taken to The Chamber, Portsmouth and transferred to an awaiting ambulance. He is said to be suffering from stomach pains.
The Normand Pacific is currently involved in the IFA2 cable project, in the vicinity of Dean Tail/Nab End.
Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat has now returned to the boathouse and is ready for the next shout – should that fall day or night.
