Back on Track are more usually associated with the Enduro and Motocross scene but the rekindling of an old friendship sparked their return to speedway.
Back on Track is owned by Simon Buckley and Andrew Perring who tells us a bit about his motorcycle love affair.
“I had a love of bikes from an early age and raced grasstrack in the early 80’s at Senior A1 class. During this time I always had support from Wiggy (the late Simon Wigg), Marvyn Cox, Geoff Thrower and Pip Lamb and was it not for an accident I am sure I would have ridden for the Oxford Cheetahs, however, making the British Championship on the Grass was enough for me.
“Later I joined the Army and was unable to continue racing. Then five years ago I began to help young rising speedway star Jamie Dixon with some oil and was his mechanic and during that time I met up with the American tour team and the bug was back.
“Now I am part of the Islanders set up and cannot wait to get involved at the schools whenever I can. We feel sure that this interesting project will be something Islanders will love and be proud of.”
Back on Track currently serve all the enduroland events and carry most spare parts in their mobile shop and they say speedway could be next for them.
Talking of the deal Barry Bishop said:
“Andrew and I got back in touch recently and when I explained what was happening on the Island I could see the twinkle in his eye immediately. Explaining more of the projects, we very quickly agreed a deal to support our riders and the school and look forward to a long lasting relationship with Back on Track”.
