Dimbola Museum and Galleries will host a second ‘Jimi and Friends’ night next month, celebrating The Pretty Things and the magic of the Isle of Wight Festivals.
The museum is set to turn back the clock once again this spring with the return of Jimi and Friends (Part Two) – a special live music event celebrating The Pretty Things and the legendary atmosphere of the 1969 and 1970 Isle of Wight Festivals.
Following a sell-out show last November, the follow-up event will take place at the Freshwater Bay venue on Friday 17th April, promising an evening of live music, nostalgia and festival spirit.
Headlining the night will be Big Red & The Cava Boys, joined by special guest Dick Taylor – founding member of The Pretty Things and former bassist with The Rolling Stones – alongside Angelina Grimshaw and Jo Larcombe.
The evening will feature a 2-part seated performance in the tearoom, where there will also be a pay bar. Beginning at 18:30, with doors opening at 18:00, the 1st half will focus on songs by The Pretty Things from 1963 to 1969.
The 2nd half will celebrate music associated with the 1969 and 1970 Isle of Wight Festivals, with songs made famous by artists including Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.
The event will also serve as a pre-launch celebration for Dimbola’s forthcoming exhibition, Jimi Hendrix at Afton, 1970, which is due to open in the museum’s former bookshop space at the end of May.
Dr Brian Hinton, Executive Chairman of Dimbola Museum & Galleries, has said:
“This promises to be a wonderful evening of outstanding live music, nostalgia and atmosphere.”
“It’s a fitting way to celebrate Jimi Hendrix’s legacy and the Isle of Wight’s extraordinary musical heritage, while building excitement for our forthcoming exhibition.”
Guests are being encouraged to embrace the spirit of the era by dressing in their favourite 1960s and 1970s festival-inspired fashion.
Tickets are priced at £15 and are available online or direct from Dimbola Museum & Galleries by calling 01983 756814. All proceeds will go towards the Jimi Hendrix Exhibition at Dimbola in May 2026, supporting the Julia Margaret Cameron Trust.
