UPDATED: Disruption has resumed in the center of Ryde this evening (Wednesday) as work begins to repair another burst water main.
As previously reported by Island Echo, an exclusive investigation revealed that traffic lights are set to return to St John’s Hill – a main through route in Ryde – for seven weeks in May so that repairs can be carried out to seals joining water pipes together. Work began in October and took six months to complete however motorists and residents alike have been hit with continuing disruption since.
This latest news comes less than 4 weeks since a section of the carriageway collapsed due to a burst water main.
High Street, Oakfield has been closed tonight and is expected to remain closed until at least 17:00 tomorrow with Southern Vectis Route 2 buses diverting via Alexandra Road.
Traffic lights are in operation which are likely to cause tailbacks at peak times.
UPDATE @ 20:10 – Residents in the area have been informed that the water supply to properties is to be cut in approximately 15 minutes for around 4 hours or longer.
Bottled water has been supplied.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 13:55 – Oakfield High Street has now reopened following the completion of works to repair the latest burst water main.
Southern Vectis Route 2 buses are now resuming a normal service.
