More than two dozen young people will receive Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) awards at an annual ceremony tomorrow (Friday).
The event will take place at the Community Learning Centre at Westridge from 19:00 tomorrow (Friday 18th December).
Amongst the recipients of awards will be Ben Wilkinson, Lydia Cole and Caleb Gilliam-Scott will all be given their Silver DofE awards. They all took part in a range of activities over the last year, including volunteering in the community and learning a new skill.
24 other young people will be presented with Bronze awards. This represents a minimum or six months of similar activities.
All the participants are supported by volunteer leaders from organisations across the Island including their schools.
Councillor Jonathan Bacon, Isle of Wight Council leader, said:
“I offer my congratulations to all the young people who will be receiving their DofE awards.
“The scheme is very important as it teaches many essential life skills and I would encourage young people who are thinking about doing a DofE award to register and take part.”
The awards will be presented by Cllr Bacon and Cllr Charles Chapman, the Isle of Wight Council chairman. Anyone aged 14 to 24 can enrol on the DofE scheme. To do so, they should email [email protected].
