The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are hoping to teach 1,000 Islanders how to perform effective, life-saving CPR during this year’s World Restart a Heart Day on Tuesday 16th October.
Restart a Heart is a designated yearly day of action with the aim to teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills to as many people as possible. For the first time, Restart a Heart is going truly global under the name of World Restart a Heart.
Free sessions for members of the public are being held between 15:00-17:00 at 8 fire stations across the Island, thanks to a partnership with the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. There is no need to book; simply turn up on the day at Cowes, East Cowes, Freshwater, Newport, Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin or Ventnor.
Furthermore, sessions are being held throughout the day at St Mary’s Hospital.
Invitations are also being sent out to schools for children in Years 6, 9 and 10 – and to home educated children – asking them to attend free, interactive CPR training sessions.
All of the sessions will be delivered by Isle of Wight NHS Trust staff, supported by Community First Responders (CFR) and Co-Responders.
