Cross-Solent travel is being disrupted by adverse weather conditions that have hit the Isle of Wight this morning (Sunday), which have also led to a flood alert being issued.
Hovertravel says that its services between Ryde and Southsea are suspended until further notice due to the blustery conditions. An update is not expected until 11:00, with customers directed to Wightlink’s Fastcat service in the meantime.
Wightlink’s services are running to time, however, despite the Great South Run being cancelled, sailings scheduled to arrive/depart from Portsmouth International Port today will still do so. This is due to planned engineering works taking place on our normal berth at Gunwharf during this time.
Red Funnel is not reporting any delays or cancellations but disruption is expected on the hi-speed Red Jet service from lunchtime.
The Environment Agency says that this afternoon’s tide will be higher than normal due to the unsettled weather, with tide tables expected to be 0.3m higher than forecasted.
For 1 hour either side of high water, very minor impact flooding will affect some sea front roads, esplanades and car parks across the Island.
Water will be high up slipways in Cowes, affecting Medina Road and the floating bridge. In East Cowes, sea water forced up through drains may cause very minor impacts to the road at Albany Road.
