A former café on the High Street in Newport could be turned into an adult gaming centre under plans submitted to the Isle of Wight Council.
Permission is being sought from the local authority for a change of use of 93 High Street, from a café to a gaming centre full of slot machines.
The premises – next to a hair salon and a barber – used to host Caffé Society until December 2021. It has been sitting empty since.
If the green light is given, shoppers can expect to see ‘Fortune Slots’ on the High Street promoting ‘love the game, hit the jackpot’.
The centre would boast 2 floors of slot machines – a mix of categories B3, C and D.
The application has been put forward by 25-year-old Joshua Cooper of Coopers Amusements Limited.
It is proposed that Fortune Slots would be open 7 days a week, between 10:00 and 22:00, and would employ 2 full-time and 1 part-time member of staff.
The planning application claims that this would be the first adult gaming centre in Newport and the only gambling/betting establishment in the primary retail area. However, a gaming centre was previously located on nearby Lower St James’ Street.
Just what we need, something else to separate people from their hard-earned…
Why not, less for the Labour Government to
get their hands on, let people enjoy themselves
Lol
Gaming and gambling can easily lead to addiction and whilst it may not seem as dangerous as alcohol or drugs the consequences are just as devastating. I don’t believe that the planning authority should even give this application a second thought.
So what, do we close down the arcades
in Sandown and Shanklin!
People don’t have to go inside.
