Island Echo always welcomes letters to the editor, which may of course not reflect the views of the publication and its staff.
The following letter is in relation to the planned construction of a T-junction connecting Fairlee Road and Mews Lane, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Letter to the editor – Sunday 1st January 2023.
“Why would you spend money creating a T-junction for a farmhouse and 1 bungalow if you were not intending on allowing a large housing development?
“The current lane (Mews lane) Fairlee Road has been adequate forever and to widen it to a 2-lane T Junction to support a cycle path nobody uses is an excuse for a not yet applied-for development that is clearly going to be fast-tracked through.
“Otherwise, this would be a total waste of public funds on an entrance that supports just 2 properties in a private lane.
“To me, it seems like another example of the corruption in local office.”

Wait and see …..?
Seems a lot of fuss for 2 properties !!!!!
But hey more council tax for our friend’s in county hall more in their already over inflated pension pot’s…..
Don’t hold your breath!!!!!!!
Hell will freeze over 1st ……
Haven’t paid council tax since they started the covid fraud, fck em..
Island roads and the council don’t seem concerned that cyclists have to cross a fast road at the end of Fairlee rd Binfield where all the accidents are you’d think that was more important. Something smells for sure . Get used to the bull after a while
Does stink a bit, doesn’t it. Quick, pass me my gas mask.
Yes, yet another infringement on the old railway line just to make certain nobody can ever bring it back into use.
The entire farce of the railway line is well documented. Just ask yourself the question. How can publicly owned land be in private hands?
Past council and councillors have a lot to answer for but sadly never will and the chenanigans carry on.
If the MP was serious about getting a rail link back to Newport, why would he then start promoting a route that would be a total non starter from Sandown?
These people must think the general public are stupid?
What a waste of time and OUR money.
Same as publicly owned services got to be sold off..We need s people’s representative someone to carry out our wishes..We need to change the System..Otherwise we get same Circus just different Clowns.
Hay! Private ownership brings competition to the market, now the trains could buy land anywhere
I totally agree, the entrance onto fairlee is big enough for the properties up mew lane, been fine for years, they built a road south of arretton near the garage, stayed unused for ages then….waddya know, built a bleeding great eco farm which very few people will benefit from, just a trendy place to live, so another field is now gone, more houses will follow as the person worried about Mew lane states, I wouldn’t trust any councillor ever, they are only in the job for self interest, give them money and they buy magic beans..bloody fools the lot of them.
We all moan about what our caring council do and don’t do but we never stand up to them
Your thumbs up says a lot of people are peed off with this lower than low council
If i was clever enough to start a picket or what ever to sort this council out i would and im sure half or mor of the island residents would join in
Deffo an entrance for something. The cycle track is the pavement there’s hardly a cyclist that uses it. I expect a field has been purchased by a Chum in the Council. Back handed brigade watch this space
Somebody who lives in the vicinity mentioned this possiblity to me a few years ago, to fill in the gap upto Halberry Lane and Atkinson Drive etc, it must take a while for the envelopes to travel to the correct places.
It was advertised has being an ideal travellers site !!!
Another IWC stealth excuse that will benefit the real agenda, StMarys junction was rushed through without an effective consultation, Yarmouth School (RIP) now the money has to be paid back to pay for a skool that was to be funded by the Government .. so trust/believe an IWC councillor at your peril I have zero confidence in this council .. their record of deception and contempt shown to islanders should never be forgotten…
Since when was Mew’s Lane ‘Adopted’ ? Surely Island Roads tasking can only apply to the existing road network. The Government gave the Isle of Wight Council £65M to bring the Island’s roads up scratch (Which they have, so far failed to do) . New roads should be newly and separately funded
ISLAND TOADS SAY NO MORE.
Corruption? Tut tut. Being in the right club and giving the right handshake does not constitute corruption. Who wouldn’t want to help their mates out?
It is strange how they are trying to make out it is for cyclists. There is no joined up cycling route from this point to Newport. Obviously they have been rumbled because there are hundreds of crap bridleways/come lanes on the Island which the council doesn’t give a monkeys about.
Which IoW Councillor lives there?
Looks like the thieves are at it again
Indeed a massive lack of transparentsy and more brown envelopes exchanging hands,
but who do you complain to…..?
But IF they are being forced to build new housing to meet a certain quoter,
there could be worse places to build upon.
Who is responsible for managing our roads- Island Roads or IW Council? Many of our roads are in a disgraceful state yet all we see are sideroads, footpaths and pavements receiving attention.Sack the lot of them!
Asked the very same question a few years ago to our local councillor the idjeet who owned Rosemary’s Vineyard when a few of us living in Upton Road asked would it take a child being killed along it before teafgiccalmung was put in place to which he replied”Island Roads would not consider it? Your the Councillor mate are you not? Again he replied Island Roads are tied into a bullet proof contract with The Council we have no say?!!! And walked off… Island roads run the Council and Brown envelope production!.
It’s time to bring the fraud squad in or public enquiry at least !
Having just driven past, another thought occurs to me. What has all this got to do with the Fairlee Road?
I say that as we endured the closures and traffic issues for Southern Water, we hoped the resurfacing of the road would be complete as well? It was not completed, just certain bits.
Well, unless my brain has gone awol again, one of the ‘bits’ they resurfaced just happens to be the bit in front of Moos Lane? So, are they actually saying that they will be digging up the surface that has been down less than 12 months to assist a private lane?????
I think someone important needs questions being asked as to just what is exactly going on here? Over to you Police Constable Willcox .
I suppose Island Roads will be improving all the Farm entrances.. well at least the ones with housing potential.
Ew cycle infrastructure, not on my watch, they don’t belong on my roads.
Join my and object to the planning, just say no.
