UPDATED: Hovertravel’s Ryde to Southsea service has been suspended once again this morning (Saturday) following on from yesterday’s troubles, which saw Island Flyer out of action for over 9 hours.
Over the past 24 hours the troubled hovercraft has barely moved having been suspended due to a technical issue at 10:30 yesterday. A normal service was resumed last night in time for just 1 round trip to be completed.
Now, the first crossing of the day – the 07:45 from Ryde – has failed to operate and the service has once again been suspended due to a technical issue.
This mirrors last Saturday when Island Flyer was sat on the pad at Ryde for most of the day.
There has been no communication from the operator, either through social media or email, to explain the issues to customers – the only reason given has been ‘technical issues’ through the company’s service status. As previously reported, Hovertravel have scrapped their push notifications and service status emails and therefore customers must now manually check to see if the service is operating normally.
Those planning to travel via Hovertravel this morning should divert to Wightlink’s Fastcat service from Ryde Pier Head, which is operating as normal.
The next update is expected at 08:30 but it is unknown if the service will return to normal at that time.
UPDATE @ 08:32 – The service remains suspended this morning.
Hovertravel say the next update will be provided at 09:00 – indicating that things may return to normal fairly soon.
UPDATE @ 08:48 – Hovertravel have now resumed a timetabled service.
