Coastguard Rescue Teams responded to reports of a missing child on the beach at Ryde this afternoon (Friday).
The alarm was raised by concerned parents at around 15:00 with Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge and Ventnor tasked to the scene.
Upon arrival of the search and rescue teams it was established that the youngster had already been found safe and well in the water by a member of the public.
The 7-year-old girl was passed into the care of local Lifeguards and family members.
Ryde Beach was packed with sun seekers today – possibly the busiest it has been in several years.

7 years old, if a school trip was taking children on a life experience trip and lost a child all hell would break loose.
So why is it parents of a seven year old child can’t take responsibility for their children???
There’s no excuse, your children are pressuse. You’ve carried them for 9 months, clothed them, fed them, nursed them and put a roof on their heads, so why loose them on a beech or on holiday??..
If you want your children to develop into the adult world, take your responsibility seriously..
Less, is more on our beaches for safety. Yet less profits for councillor owned beach Cafes.
How the f can you loose a child it’s not like she’s a set of car keys now is it
To clarify Ryde Beach Lifegaurds had the girl safe at RBLG HQ before coastguard was even called. This was 1 of 4 missing children today.
Good job guys. Now check the spelling of lifeguards!
They were no doubt busy keeping us all safe, and our children to worry too much about a typo!! Back to the grammar police corner for you!
Unfortunately Nin, the name is one they registered on island echo as their log in name, so would have been set up incorrectly, and probably not while they were keeping everybody safe! If nobody points this out, it doesn’t look very good, as, after all, they are a professionally trained group of people. Or should we let everybody just spell things incorrectly to avoid upsetting anyone?
Doesn’t matter where they were still shouldn’t take your eyes off your kids
I cannot understand why people are surprised. The parents think the beach is like a children’s playground , this give them the excuse to feed their faces, get drunk and then doze off.
They then wake up, find their child is missing, get hysterical expect everybody hurtle round looking for the child expecting sympathy. These people should have been sterilized.
You know the parents personally
Likely too busy on Facebook, telling their equally boring ‘friends’ how wonderful their day is, in an attempt to make them think they are having a better life that their so called ‘friends’.
IF the Government paid people to have a dog, then, we would have far more neglected dogs. Especially if having a dog meant you would only have to work 20 hours per week, get given a house, and paid for every dog you ‘looked after’ whether you did or not.
That is ‘often’ PART of the problem here, selfish people too busy on a screen or drinking or on dope, who someone like the RSPCA would not allow to own a pet, yet such fools often have the most children.
Maybe wrong and perhaps these were model parents, and just unlucky. If the cap fits….
