Seven members of the Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team travelled to Andover to race at Thruxton Motor Circuit on Sunday.
First up, Stu Waite and Martin Sanders lined up in the 4th category race. The 90+ riders on the start were soon split after the pace picked up.
The race was hectic, and after skillfully avoiding a crash in the bunch, Sanders was forced onto the grass and, after losing contact with the peloton, had to retire from the race.
As the race neared its conclusion, Waite once again found himself in the bunch for the sprint finish. He positioned himself well and took a strong 5th place. This gave him five points towards his 3rd category licence, and leaves him only needing a single point to progress.
In the second race of the day Wightlink-LCM Systems riders Sam Baker, Ian Hayden, Matt Allsopp and Kev Foster lined up in the 3rd cat event.
The pace was high and after some early work on the front for his teammates, Foster was shelled from the peloton. An early break then established a gap, but Baker worked hard and closed down the deficit between the pack and the escapees. This put Hayden and Allsopp back into the group where they finished safely with the bunch.
In the final race of the day, James Ebdon lined up with the Elite, 1st & 2nd category riders. With the elite riders controlling the pace it was extremely fast and Ebdon did well to stay in the pack and finish in the group. This was a good start to his season and indicative of good form.
