A bid to build a ‘high-quality’ 4-bedroom house on ‘undeveloped land’ off Pallance Road has moved one step further.
Planners have approved Jennifer Porter and Gerry Shaw’s outline application for a self-build chalet bungalow with a new vehicle access in a former garden off Northwood’s Pallance Road.
The accepted proposal comes after separate plans for a major housing development immediately to the southwest of the application site were turned down by officers as ‘visually intrusive’ in February.
A Planning, Design and Access Statement written by Paul Stack Planning said:
“This submission involves an outline application with access and scale to be considered at this stage in respect of the construction of a chalet bungalow on undeveloped land at 90 Pallance Road.
“The property would comprise a kitchen, living and dining room, utility room, study and bedroom at ground floor level with three further bedrooms, en-suite and bathroom facilities above.
“The proposal provides an opportunity to introduce a high-quality modern dwelling.”
County Hall’s decision report said the development would have an ‘acceptable’ impact on its surroundings, help to fulfil the Island’s housing need and was ‘appropriately sited in relation to services, facilities and amenities’.
Northwood Parish Council signalled its support on the condition that ‘sightlines are improved’ and a hedge is removed prior to building works.
The council attached 11 conditions to its consent for reasons of highway safety, national legislation, Island planning policy, environmental protection and enhancement and visual amenity.

I thought the island needed more social housing,
all I keep seeing is luxury 4 and 5 bedroom homes
being built on the island.
