A number of children are being assessed by paramedics after being rescued from the icy cold waters at Ryde Harbour this lunchtime (Sunday).
A child fell off the sea wall and into the water shortly before 12:40, with 2 others jumping in to rescue their friend.
Thankfully, the trio were saved with help from the harbour master, who managed to get a life ring around 1 of the youngsters. The other 2 self-rescued.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is on scene with 2 ambulance crews alongside Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team.
Gosport and Fareham Independent Lifeboat rushed to the scene a short while ago, with Ryde Inshore Rescue also tasked to launch. Both resources have since been stood down.
UPDATE @ 13:40 – The 3 children – understood to be 3 boys – are being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital as a precautionary measure.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard has said:
“HM Coastguard received a 999 call just before 12:25 this afternoon, after a 10 year old boy fell into the water at Ryde Harbour and two of his friends enter the water after him.
“Needles and Ventnor Coastguard rescue teams, Gosport and Ryde independent lifeboats and Isle of Wight Ambulance were all sent.
“Two of the boys self-recovered the other was rescued by the Ryde Harbour Master who was able to throw the boy a life ring and bring him to shore.”
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

Why are 10 year old boys being allowed to play near the water, it’s dangerous as hell, where the hell were the parants, probably enjoying a quiet life or wasted

As most can walk without falling in, perhaps we could be informed why ‘this’ child fell.
As if a dangerous place then needs to be closed down, until the danger is rectified, or if they were up to no good, we should be informed of that to.
Lot of vandals hang around there. Ask the pool owners.
More homes will add to the misery and destruction of property and all our standards of life here.
Very brave and loyal friends to jump in for their friend like that, probably not the best choice with hindsight but good friends never the less. Hope they are all ok
Can we have that again but in English please?
Got no idea what you are saying obviously spent little time at school

Not true at all!we were right there sitting on a bench when one(already wer boy)pushed his mate in who obv had a shock from the cold.He could swim but was being pushed down by his friend who tried to help. They both grabbed the wall & were by the steps so could get out.A woman passing threw the life ring while we told the harbour master .No panic noone in trouble.just kids messing around no.oarents around!
Idiots so ‘desperate’ to try to find something, anything to ‘praise’ children or b lacks for now, even if it is only praising their ‘heroics’ into avoiding their own demise from their own stupid actions.
With such mentality likely the ‘same’ sort who will be smashing up the place as the cover of darkness hides them.
Then the same ‘dreamers’ will be praising them for calling the fire brigade on a building that they have torched whilst they film such to brag to equally useful ‘mates’.
See them for what they likely are.
Good job we didn’t have island echo in the 50’s, we would have been on it every day.
