More than 200 driving offences were identified in the space of just 2 days during a crackdown operation targeting motorists on the Isle of Wight.
Last Thursday and Friday, mainland-based Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officers joined the Isle of Wight’s RPU and ARV officers as part of an enforcement operation on the Island, utilising both marked and unmarked cars and motorcycles.
The operation centred on a zero tolerance approach to offences on the road network, with a particular focus on ‘Fatal Four’ offences – drink/drug driving, driving without a seatbelt, speeding, and mobile phone use whilst driving.
Among the 225 offences identified, many were for driving without seatbelts and mobile phone use behind the wheel. Other offences included speeding and driving carelessly.
A total of 3 vehicles were seized for having no insurance, and 2 people were dealt with by community resolution for possessing cannabis. A motorcycle was also seized as the driver had no licence.
In addition, officers issued a number of tickets to people for other offences, including insecure loads, non-conforming number plates, window tints and exhaust offences.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“Road safety issues are regularly brought to our attention on the Isle of Wight, and are clearly of concern to Island residents. We want you to be reassured that we listen to these concerns, and regularly conduct enforcement action to target the minority of drivers whose standards fall far below what is legally expected of them.
“We encourage members of the public to report driving offences, and concerns around driving standards, to police as this all feeds into our intelligence-gathering work and helps us keep road users safe.
“To make a report to police, call 101, or submit information via the report tool on the Hampshire Constabulary website. Always dial 999 in the event of an emergency”.
Well, simple maths tells me that there was an average of 100 a day (and more). So doing the statisticians usual exercise of producing an annual figure for offences, I come up with 36 THOUSAND offences are being committed on Island roads every year, a good reason to increase police numbers and fine the offenders, so producing a good revenue for law enforcement. Just need to get the judges on board to complete the circle. Easy money, keep taxes down and increase safety on the road.
Well, anybody got a better idea?
Great news I have been saying for ages
Island motorists are lawless Numpty’s
Well done to the Police for doing a grand job.
We need more of these crackdown operations.
Everyday when I am driving along I see so many
WRONGS
Drivers speeding, driving into NO Entry Roads,
drivers on their phones, parking on Zig Zags and
parking on Double Yellow Lines, not to mention
parking in Loading bays.
The money generated in fines etc can go towards more
police that is needed to protect our roads.
Personally I would raise the revenue by rolling out
Islandwide parking permits.
Enough is enough…ha ha ha always blaming speeding drivers, it was probably you I followed on an empty 50mph road in good dry daylight conditions doing between 30 and 40 mph and even carried on in a 30 Zone doing 38 to 40 mph ..You are right about standards but wrong to keep blaming speeding . If you can’t drive to the speed and conditions of the road you should give your licence up and use public transport
I saw 2 Numpty’s today speeding like Fcuk
along Beaper Shute a Blue ST, reg was something
DAZ and another Numpty was behind in a grey
Subaru
You will never STOP uneducated Numpty’s speeding
if everyone is like you, “forgiving”.
These Numpty’s unless ‘stopped’ could kill
innocent persons.
Oh god. Enough is Enough will be happy. Well, actually, he won’t
I am over the moon. I saw them in action last week
It made my day!
The island is full of chancers who think they can
do what they want, but they can’t!
vehicles park on Double Yellow Lines outside
The Happy Haddock along Shanklin High Street in
the old village and outside AJs in Atherley Road
Shanklin
SLAP TICKETS ON THE NUMPTY’S
No seat belts unbelievable in 2025..then you have the mobile phone wanker. ..
I have been going on about this for ages and many
people don’t like to hear the truth.
SPEEDING IS THE WORST PROBLEM ON THE ISLAND
IW COUNCIL NEEDS TO PUT IN MEASURES, SPEED HUMPS
ARE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE.
I DON’T THINK ISLAND ROADS KNOW HOW TO INSTALL
THEM THOUGH!
LOL
i see mobile phone every single day..twats
So do I, many of them are workers driving
Company vans and trucks.
I saw a twat today along Green Lane in Shanklin
in a BMW on his mobile
But if you get burgled or robbed, you just get a crime number, police dont even turn up!
targeting motorists is just a cash cow exercise !
True, but we need safe roads.
Cash cow or not!
If they had spent 2 days on Binstead Hill they would have surpassed that number. The amount of bellends driving at dangerous speeds in a residential area full of kids and old people was frightening…
Not to mention speeding along
the Military Road, Briddlesford Road, Great Preston Road,
Beachfield Road, Yaverland Road, Marshcombe Shute etc etc
The list doesn’t end!
I’m glad at least some of them were caught
So am I.
Should be an everyday exercise, the Police would
generate millions of pounds in just 1 month.
How much nicer it would have been if it had been 225 lowlife taken off our streets. Poor bloody motorist easy bate cash cows
These 225 law breakers are lowlifes, there are no
excuses for these crimes.
Let’s hope they carry out another operation and
catch another 225 Numpty’s
