Local MP Bob Seely has received support worth over £20,000 to help his work as a Member of Parliament for the Isle of Wight, new data has revealed.
The Westminster Accounts Database shows information about the earnings and donations declared by any MP, political party, an all-party parliamentary group, or donor since the last election.
Among those offering sums as gifts to Seely are both Sea View Yacht Club and Bembridge Sailing Club which offered honorary membership totalling £2,980 and £2,440 in value respectively.
Surprisingly, 1 of the most generous interests that were declared was a donation of £4,000 from ex-Island MP Barry Field – who held the seat in the constituency between 1987 and 1997.
Elsewhere a substantial £5,000 was donated to Bob by the Isle of Wight Conservative Patrons Club back in January 2020.
Since the start of the current parliament at the end of 2019, Bob has declared 3 other financial interests including a gift of over £2,000 from Yalta European Strategy and a gift of over £5,300 from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Bahrain, whilst in March 2022, Bob declared he had earnt around £200 from the BBC.

Vermin…. every last politician.
well well that’s a surprise. How do yo think clubs for the boys run.
Should have bought shares in brown envelope manufacturers.
Probably has but in an aliasTorys are good at fitting the rules to their own particular proje t!.
Actually they gave him complimentary memberships worth those amounts.
That’s almost worse. He could use cash to help Islanders (could, but wouldn’t), but a freebie membership of a swanky yacht club can only ever be a bribe.
The bung of £5k from Bahrain is particularly concerning.
No small coincidence that building in these two areas is minimal, and no houses of multiple occupancy will ever be built in either, and the only dingy arrivals coming ashore to stay will be loading up with bottle of Bols and Lobster to take back to the galley.
More bungs than a plumbers warehouse in Politics imo.
Not the worst .. but still rotten to the core .. and MP’s paid work elsewhere ? They signed upto a full time job .. so clearly not enough todo for £82,000 a year ..
Why did he receive a gift from YES? This is a meeting of senior political figures dealing with concerns around the EU and Ukraine along with other rich associates. Like others I would be interested to know what the over 5K donation from Bahrain was for? He gets over 84K from his MP salary so what is the justification of the “gift” money? This country politicians are really taking the mick especially when you think what the minimum wages are set at. No wonder everyone is going on strike.
Open honest ,,,,,, well that’s a surprise !!!!
Wonder why Seaview and Over priced Bembridge building gets a thumbs down?
Probably because he wants his other half a sausage !
Whoever is an mp Labour Conservative independent etc line their own nest 1st and beggar those that pay for it !!!!
All tarred and feathered with the same brush …..
We the plebs of society are supposed 2 suck it up ….
Look at every councillors excuse blame it on the previous council, well my excuse is most of you are the previous numptys !!!!!
And we all know who you are !
Floating bridge , sandwich (Bacon ) etc….
Brilliantly put
So we can expect favourable treatment to both yacht clubs in the near future? Expect planning applications supported by our MP which will pass without issue. Corruption at its base level in my opinion! Loading the bank account of someone in a position of ‘bending’ or circumventing certain rules should be illegal, and obviously if this was a Policeman being paid then the punishment would be severe. Different rules again!
All pigs with their snouts in the trough.
The rich used to do the same with the church when most believed, leave a huge sum to the church, hoping to buy their way into Heaven and to counteract any guilt they had for treating the plebs so horribly.
Now most aren’t that religious, most have zero guilt and so ‘bung’ only those who can better their interests on Earth nowadays.
But wouldn’t we all IF we were in their shoes
This is disgusting, and we the public have let this happen… next time we come to voting time… do not vote… do not vote for anyone, the only way to change the system is to protest by not voting… just imagine of the whole country did this… who would be in power? It’s time
For the sake of balance, lets not forget that Labour top MP’s are no better.
Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, has received £184,317, former mayor of South Yorkshire Dan Jarvis £100,000 and shadow health secretary Wes Streeting £60,900.
This was not the total bung received, just the total from one company who just happen to have major building contracts in London.
The wealthy looking after the wealthy.
All politicians are bent ,why is this article such a suprise.
