A 14-home development set to be built off a main road in Cowes has moved one step closer, subject to permission for a landscaping plan being approved.
Oceanview Developments Ltd is seeking planning consent for a series of reserved matters relating to its previously approved outline proposal for 2-storey, 2, 3 and 4-bed homes on land next to 77 Place Road in Cowes.
The latest application is for soft and hard landscaping and a planting scheme which, if approved, will allow work on the development to go ahead.
Oceanview’s agent, the Andrew White Planning Consultancy, has said the proposal would help the new housing ‘complement the character and appearance of the surrounding area’.
The council granted outline consent for the development in January 2023, describing it as a ‘small but important contribution to meeting local needs for market housing’.
It was met with considerable resistance, however, from 2 parish councils, 16 local residents, the Island’s then MP Bob Seely, and the Campaign to Protect Rural England Isle of Wight (CPRE IW).
Concerns raised by Northwood Parish Council included increased traffic and ‘adverse effects’ on the ‘local community and social infrastructure’.
Gurnard Parish Council, meanwhile, cited the area being a greenfield site, its location outside of a settlement boundary and a lack of affordability as grounds of opposition.
County Hall’s public consultation on the reserved matters application ends on 4th July and a decision is due on 28th August.
If they are not affordable homes don’t build them!
Agree & % affordable is 8o% if the full price happy to be told if this isn’t. I wonder why they’re not building small bungalow communities for older people. This would enable people like myself to sell their larger houses to younger people with families. This used to happen also means less home care needed for older people living alone.
