40-year-old Warren Russell has been handed a 10-week prison sentence following his latest theft spree, in which he targetted 4 shops across Ryde, Lake and Shanklin. Russell, a prolific local thief, was charged with numerous offences yesterday (Thursday) and put before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this morning. He pleaded guilty to 6 charges including:
- Theft from a shop – £52 worth from Co-Op in Anglesea Street, Ryde on 4th January
- Theft from a shop – unknown value of perfume and aftershave from Tesco, Ryde, on 6th January
- Attempted theft from a shop – Co-op on Anglesea Street, Ryde on 9th January
- Attempted theft from a shop – alcohol – from Tesco, Ryde on 10th January
- Theft from a shop – £5.19 of food and drink from Central Convenience, Lake on 10th January
- Theft from a shop – £48 worth of washing powder – from Co-op on Landguard Road, Shanklin on 10th January
Magistrates handed Russell a 10-week prison sentence and ordered him to pay compensation of £105.19. The 40-year-old has appeared on Island Echo on numerous occasions. He has now massed up a mammoth record of over 115 convictions and in 2023 alone he appeared in court no less than 4 times and completed 3 stints in prison. Warren Russell was jailed for 20 weeks in February 2023, with a further sentence of 12 weeks in May. Then, in September, he was handed a 22-week prison sentence. He last appeared before the courts at the start of December where he avoided prison and was ordered to pay compensation. On that occasion he had also stolen washing powder, as well as milkshake.
