Red Funnel has announced that Young Lives vs Cancer has been elected as its Charity of the Year for 2022.
The announcement follows the results of a vote by both the general public and Red Funnel colleagues.
Young Lives vs Cancer provides support for young people living with cancer as well as much needed support to their families. From the beginning of the treatment and throughout their journey, they help provide the strength, support and resources needed to face everything that cancer throws at them. Over the last year, the team has supported over 200 families across the Isle of Wight and Hampshire.
Fran Collins, Chief Executive of Red Funnel, said:
“I am delighted to announce that Young Lives vs Cancer has been selected as Red Funnel’s Charity of the Year 2022.
“We are in awe of the dedication, commitment, and passion that the team at Young Lives vs Cancer have whilst serving those in need. We look forward to working in partnership with them over the next 12 months and hope we can work together to continue to rise funds for the vital support they offer patients and families in their time of need.”
Over the next 12 months, Red Funnel will support Young Lives vs Cancer in a series of ongoing fundraising campaigns. In previous years Red Funnel has helped its partners to fundraise through customer donations, sports competitions and volunteering.
Speaking on behalf of Young Lives vs Cancer, Liz Blunt, Senior Fundraising Engagement Manager, said:
“We are over the moon to have been chosen as the Red Funnel’s Charity of the Year for 2022 and are so grateful to their staff and customers choosing to support children and young people with cancer. We don’t receive any government funding and it’s vital that families get the support they need at such a distressing time. We can only provide essential support thanks to companies like Red Funnel.
“A massive thank you to everyone who took part in the vote, this is such a significant partnership and we are really excited to be working with Red Funnel.”
Young Lives vs Cancer succeeds Isle of Wight Independent Lifeboats, which held the distinction of Red Funnel’s Charity of the Year in 2021. A final announcement of total funds raised along with a cheque presentation is due to be announced soon.
From 1st February, Red Funnel customers can opt to make a donation to Young Lives vs. Cancer at the time of booking their ferry travel online. For more information about Red Funnel’s Charity of the Year scheme, visit https://www.redfunnel.co.uk/coty.
A few years ago RF has the LGBTQ flag on the side of their ships, went on their site and looked at their sponsored charities at the time, yet no LGBTQ charity was listed. Even emailed them but had no response about it. They just support/give to charity not because they care but because it makes them look good.
I don’t think the LGBTQ community would like to be classed as a charity somehow, just equal rights etc.
Idiot.
Well why slap the flag on it to show your support but not give to the various LBTQ charities? Just kinda hollow in my opinion. Anyone can slap a logo on them and say they care.
Will they be supporting people with cancer by making sure that they can get to their appointments on time? Maybe using some of the profits to pay for staff to be on call for when one does not come in for their shift. Have a spare boat to fill in if one has an issue. Be better than current situation where you have to travel two hours before you appointment as you can’t rely on their service and so have to build in time to find an alternative route when they cancel a sailing at short notice.
A better service would be the best way they can support people with cancer. Scrap the winter time table!
