There were 180 more unemployed people on the Isle of Wight last month than at the same time last year, figures from the Office for National Statistics show.
Some 1,525 people were claiming out of work benefits during October 2018, which is 135 more than in September. It’s an increase of 180 when compared to October 2017.
Figures show that the youngest workers, those aged 18 to 24, made up just 18.68% of the unemployed. Of those unemployed, 965 were male and 560 were female.
The Isle of Wight is still above average in the South East for unemployment, with 1.9% of the working age population out of work vs 1.4% in the rest of the South East.
